Democrat Congresswoman "Offended by This Whole Conversation About Socialism"

The serious contemplation on the virtues of socialism (SPOILER: there are none) invading broad culture speaks to rampant ignorance and a populace completely spoiled by modernity.

Individuals who have lived elsewhere, suffered under actual tyranny, or who have a basic understanding of varying systems of government understand that socialism is a scourge and a system ripe for abuse by an inefficient bureaucracy.

Democratic Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, the first Vietnamese American Congresswoman, had some harsh words for her Democrat colleagues last week.

The WaEx reported:

“I am offended by this whole conversation about socialism,” said Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla. “The idea that in the greatest democracy, the greatest capitalist system in the world, we’re having casual conversation about socialism, offends me.”

Murphy, speaking at the BakerHostetler conference in Washington, declared herself a “proud capitalist” in front of the 150 attendees. She did not name any of her colleagues. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are two prominent lawmakers who have touted socialist policies.

“It is the system that built us the greatest nation and the greatest economy in the world. Sure, we have to fix the inequities that exist in our system. We have to make sure everybody, no matter what zip code they’re born in, has a fair shot,” Murphy said. “But it is not the moment to undo the whole system and embrace something that Americans have spent blood and treasure fighting to save other countries from.”

Murphy, the first Vietnamese American woman in Congress, said her disdain for socialism is a result of growing up in a country that adhered to that style of government. She immigrated as a refuge to the U.S. with her family as a baby.

All well and good, but if they have a D after the name, they are not to be trusted.

Mr. pfg, with all respect, I tend to disagree. Her statement seems to be unequivocal. The southeast Asians know of what they speak. They came here to survive and succeed, and have taught their kids and grandkids the value of a free America, education and capitalism, all intertwined. It is refreshing, to say the least, that any democrat will praise our nation. My sincere desire is that her words will somehow have a positive impact and that the entire weight of the socialists will only lift her up. If I take off my rose-colored glasses, you have a strong point and I will stand corrected if your cynicism is accurate.

She’s a Democrat, so she must be in agreement with her party and her voting record is the evidence

She was a baby when she was a subject of the communists. I doubt that she was an acute observer of the socio-economic scene.

I’m sure she didn’t grow up with stories of the aunts and uncles murdered after funding was pulled by the US. Nope no stories at all.

And yet Murphy remains a member of the out loud-and-proud socialist Democrat Party. Nope, no inconsistencies at all.

For your enjoyment may I suggest Robert Conquest’s “The Great Terror” and Solzhenitsyn’’s “Gulag Archipelago”? I promise you won’t find a single dull page! Please pay close attention to the accounts about minor Soviet bureaucrats (like Murphy) who denounced family members in order to advance their own careers.

Milhouse in reply to scaulen. | April 9, 2019 at 1:15 am

Let’s be more precise. The funding for rearming the South and for air support, both of which the US had solemnly promised, was denied by the Congressional Democratic Party. The same one she’s now a member of.

Barry in reply to scaulen. | April 9, 2019 at 1:32 am

Yep, it was her party, the democrats, that refused to spend a dime helping the south to maintain their freedom won at a high cost (50K Americans died for it).

rdmdawg in reply to bear. | April 8, 2019 at 8:17 pm

Respectfully, she’s a Democrat, she’s a socialist at least, full communist at worst.

Arminius in reply to bear. | April 8, 2019 at 11:48 pm

I agree totally with bear. With all due respect, I can’t conclude you know who you are dealing with. Asian women, especially South Eastern Asian women might appear something delicate like doves. That you must protect them. But inside they have spines of steel.

They must always be cherished, as must all women. But just try to crush the Vietnamese women (at least the first generation who escaped). It can’t be done.

Ok, Murphy isn’t first generation. But good f***ing luck bending her to your will, Democrats.

rdmdawg in reply to Arminius. | April 9, 2019 at 12:45 am

Is this for real or a troll? We don’t do identity politics here. We’re a pure meritocracy and don’t care where you’re from.

Milhouse in reply to rdmdawg. | April 9, 2019 at 1:16 am

This is not identity politics, it’s ingrained traits.

Arminius in reply to rdmdawg. | April 9, 2019 at 7:50 pm

I served with more than a few South Vietnamese who sounded just like me on all the important issues. I’m thinking of one in particular, a woman we nicknamed Low because her given name was Hi.

She did the Beto-esque thing of standing on tables or chairs, but with a lot more justification as she was less than five feet tall. And she would rail against communism like no one has railed against communism.

Which left me thinking, “If I didn’t know you were already married I would propose to you right now.”

Point being, if Mrs. Murphy is anything like Ms. Low she’ll learn she has no place in the new Democratic party. How many pro-life Democrats are there? Right. Same thing is going to happen to pro-capitalist Democrats. She’ll have to choose whether to stay and submit to socialism or leave altogether. Based upon my experience with iron-willed Southeast Asian women, she’ll switch sides.

I could be wrong, of course. Maybe Southeast Asian women are no longer who they once were. But if I’m right she’ll be a fierce ally when she figures out who her friends really are.

Arminius in reply to rdmdawg. | April 9, 2019 at 7:57 pm

Milhouse is right. This has nothing to do with identity politics. Although I prefer to state it differently from ingrained traits. They’ve all been through the same crucible, or learned about it from a loved one who had experienced it.

I’m surprised I don’t get downvoted more often. Back when I was in the service if there was the ability to downvote I, as a Naval intelligence officer, would have been downvoted most of the time.

But just because I’m downvoted doesn’t mean what I’m saying isn’t true.

1 Kings 22. Micaiah was downvoted 400 to one.

Micaiah is one of my favorite smart a@@es of the Bible. evil king Aham vowed.

” “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son 27and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’ ”

Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people”

Ahab is like, “unless you tell me what I want to hear I’m going to throw your @$$ in prison. Micaiah is like, “Do it ya piece of Shiite.” And Ahab does it to his utter destruction.

rdm in reply to Arminius. | April 9, 2019 at 7:39 am

She already bent to their will. She ran as a democrat she caucuses with democrats. She aids and abets democrats. Which makes her words on this so much hot air until she backs them up with concrete action and abandons the party of socialism and racism and any other ism you can name except capitalism.

rdm in reply to bear. | April 9, 2019 at 7:35 am

She ran as a democrat. She is caucusing as a democrat. That right there puts the lie to her words. It’s blatantly obvious that the democrats are all about socialism and have been for some time.

zennyfan in reply to pfg. | April 8, 2019 at 8:00 pm

If you trust AOC and her ilk when they blather on about being socialists, why wouldn’t you trust Rep. Murphy when she asserts her unequivocal support of capitalism?

I will be a strong advocate for our environment, for cleaner air and water, and for smart investments in green energy that both reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and make energy more affordable for Florida families. – Stephanie Murphy

It’s just about impossible to be elected to anything as a Republican in California these days.

PARTY STATUS:
BLACKLISTED

That’s perhaps the grossest thing about Democrats. Even when they know better, and ignorance can no longer be used as an excuse, they’re still Democrats.

That’s a dedication to evil, chaos, ruin and decay which is just plain inexcusable.

I don’t believe the little liar for one second. She is a greedy, power hungry politician trying to work both sides of the street. No one pulled the wool over her eyes about her party’s love affair with socialism – she knew it and chose power over humanity. Her fake outrage may fool those who voted for her, but others see her for what she is.

Would you believe a Nazi politician who claimed to be offended by the Nazi Party’s anti-semitism, yet remained in the party? Don’t assume that because someone fled communist tyranny that they automatically oppose tyranny. She wants to be able tyrannize others. That is why she is a Democrat.

Congresswoman Murphy possesses too much common sense to be a Dhimmi-crat/Dumb-o-crat. She needs to switch to the GOP, because her Party is committed to implementing neo-communism in the U.S.

DDsModernLife | April 8, 2019 at 8:25 pm

I’d like to ask Rep. Murphy: if today’s Democrats were Socialists, how would their policy positions differ?

The entire Demoncrat party and all their moronic voters make me want to puke!

Conservative Beaner | April 8, 2019 at 9:06 pm

Change parties and then we might start trusting you.

Rep. Murphy, now that you see the light, turn away from the dark side and join us.

Subotai Bahadur | April 8, 2019 at 10:22 pm

Since Obama, and since Hillary was blocked from achieving her mission of completing the destruction of this country, the Democrats have not even tried to hide it anymore. Their most prominent members are referring to themselves as Democrat-Socialists. They are openly working to destroy the rule of law and the Constitution.

No one with the Democrat label can be trusted as an American.

Good cop bad cop…ho hum.

There have been so very many nominal Democrats who, offended by the lunatic policies recently embraced by their party, have chosen to throw in with the Republicans, or at least the Trump supporters.

I think it is reasonable to suppose that this woman thought she was joining the party of JFK, only to find out that it has morphed into the party of Bernie Sanders and AOC. Who wouldn’t be offended by that severe bait-and-switch?

Ronald Reagan, Joe Lieberman, and DJ Trump were Democrats before the Party got too weird for them. Why not welcome her insight?

Kemberlee Kaye in reply to Valerie. | April 9, 2019 at 12:37 am

    Completely agree.

amatuerwrangler in reply to Valerie. | April 9, 2019 at 12:44 am

JFK has been dead going on 53 years; she doesn’t look old enough to have any recall of JFK’s Dems. By the time she was able to make those decisions the loony left had already driven LBJ out with their anti-war program. Maybe she believed the “Nixon’s War” rhetoric and went Dem. Fact remains that the Dems have been on a trek to the left all her time in the US.

And since some seem to have forgotten: the term “representative” as used in our current government is a nominal term. When you cast a vote for a House member who sports a “D” you are putting a vote in the hands of Pelosi. If your personal philosophy jibes with Nan’s you are OK, otherwise you are unrepresented in Congress. Lets wait and see if this lady keeps up the anti-socialist talk until its time for her to be primaryed by the party. Dems are very serious about “party unity”.

Maybe she is actually offended by having her party’s programs and proposals called out for what they really are. Time will tell.

Why don’t we wait and see? We’ve been waiting for cracks in the Democratic party’s seemingly unbreakable wall. Maybe this is one. So far, no Dem has dared to speak out for fear of getting viciously attacked. Let’s see what happens.

And BTW, just because some of us live in CA doesn’t make us communists.

      She is forty.

Barry in reply to Valerie. | April 9, 2019 at 1:40 am

    “Why not welcome her insight?”

What insight is that? The one that led her to join the party that doomed 1/2 her country to live under communism? The one that will have her voting with the same democrats that are doing everything in their power to illegally overturn the result of an election?

rdm in reply to Valerie. | April 9, 2019 at 7:44 am

She is younger than me. The democrats have been blatantly socialist as a party longer than she has been alive.

Sanddog in reply to Valerie. | April 9, 2019 at 11:52 am

You make a good point. I know a lot of democrats (living in a heavily blue county) who are outraged by our new Gov and her leap to the left. While I privately roll my eyes and wonder where the heck they’ve been for the last 20 years, I have told them this is the new face of their party and if they don’t like it, they need to work to reclaim it or leave.

Too many Venezuelans live in her district.

Dennis Miller: “Socialism is like nude beaches. Sounds like a good idea until you try it.”

Sorry honey you don’t get to be indignant about that and stil act as an enabler for the Democratic Party by running as one and serving as one. Quit the party, then we can talk.

The Marxist Leftard’s have proven Sen.McCarthy Correct.

Terence G. Gain | April 9, 2019 at 8:35 am

If she’s a proud capitalist then obviously she’s in the wrong party..

A proud capitalist in the democrat party… Well, a couple of months in the democrat party re-education camp and she’ll forget that silly sh*t. As if.

It always comes back to the same question with these Democrats — can she possibly be this stupid, or blatantly lying, or both? A capitalist doesn’t try to make a political career in a socialist party.

HarvardPhD in reply to Bisley. | April 10, 2019 at 2:51 pm

It may amaze anyone who hasn’t gotten seriously involved in the electoral political process, but in order to climb, one has to make do by beginning on whatever rungs of the ladder are accessible. There are parts of the country where there is no Republican organization worth mentioning. There are neighborhoods, ethnic backgrounds, and occupation which afford access to one party, but not the other. Moreover, there are people involved in one party or the other who have not yet been totally homogenized into the national milkshake taken for granted by partisans and the media.

I have no idea why Congresswoman Murphy became a Democrat. But if she is maintaining beliefs that are in accord with the historical American mainstream, I am grateful for that. I don’t want to have to examine her political birth certificate to make sure that she has the proper lineage before I can approve of something she says.

“…a system ripe for abuse by an inefficient bureaucracy.”

We’ve already got one.

As long as the Democrats remain one of the two major parties in America, we have to hope that they are winnowed away from the mindless radicalism embraced by part of their base—especially kids who are too young to understand what it is they are talking about. The mindless condemnation evinced here of a Democrat who is saying the right things is partisan BS.

What this thread is demonstrating is that some Republicans can manifest the same clannishness and reflexive hatreds that now disgrace the American center-left. The ultimate end of this process would be civil war. It doesn’t help anything to spew bile into the Internet; those who do are just ventilating to gratify themselves.
